Welcome to Tropical Aquarium UK | Huge Selection of Tropical Fish Food and Aquarium Automatic Feeders | Great Deals on Tropical Fish Food
There are many varieties of tropical fish food on the market, from live food to flakes, tablets and pellets. Algae tablets and pellets are particularly suited to herbivorous bottom-feeders such as corydora's and plecos, whilst surface feeding omnivores such as angels, gouramis and tetras should gobble up the flakes in no time! Dried aquarium fish food is made up of animal or plant matter and makes a good staple diet.
Food should be stored in a cool, dry place as they can deteriorate within a few months and lose their vitamins and nutrients. It is therefore better to buy a small pot than a large one. Many dried aquarium fish foods are specially designed to bring out the colours of your fish.
Freeze dried tropical fish food is an excellent supplement to fish diets and the most popular varieties are tubiflex worms and krill, which can encourage fish to spawn.
Live fish food is readily available and common varieties include brine shrimp, tubiflex worms, daphnia, bloodworms and mosquito larvae. These are obviously intended for carnivorous fish. Again, they are beneficial in the breeding process and create interest in the tropical fish tank with the fish swimming for their supper! They are also beneficial to fry.
It is better to underfeed than overfeed. Though pellets and algae tablets take a little while to soften in the water and take longer to eat, all flakes should have been consumed within three minutes as a general rule of thumb.
